- Chronic procrastination — Procrastination leads to sitting on decisions far longer than needed. This adds pressure, anxiety and stress. All of this adds a heavy cognitive load on the brain which could lead to negative effects.
- Suppressing emotions — Research says that people who do not share their emotions freely tend to be more stressed and emotionally unstable than people who do. Holocaust survivors who suppressed their horrific experiences were likely to visit the doctor more frequently as compared to people who did not suppress their emotions.
- Lack of natural light — Poor exposure to natural light, especially during the day, is known to disrupt the circadian rhythm of the body and impact mood, sleep quality and brain function.
- Dehydration — Our brain is 75% water. Studies have shown negative effects on brain function and development due to dehydration, especially in children. Reduced cognitive abilities such as lack of concentration, poor memory, brain fog and problem-solving are a few outcomes of dehydration.
- Fake dopamine — Porn, excess sugar, mindless scrolling and use of technology, compulsive shopping, gambling, drugs and alcohol are activities related to the release of excessive and unnatural dopamine. They are linked to the brain's reward system. These habits are addictive and they make the human mind less resilient.
Have a happy, healthy brain!
