WORLD POPULATION IN 2050

While “collapse” is a strong word for population decline, the decline will only fasten with time. Countries like Japan, China, eastern Europe etc. have already started witnessing population decline, while South Korea is on the way with lowest TFR of 0.78. Western Europe, USA, Canada, Singapore and Australia are somehow trying to deal with population decline through immigration.

On the other hand, South Asia, middle east and sub-Saharan Africa are experiencing rapid population rise. India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Egypt, DR Congo, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Philippines, Ethiopia — all are rapidly growing in terms of population. India and Bangladesh have lowered down their TFR significantly but still their populations will continue to rise till 2050s.

Africa is estimated to have over 2.5 billion people, South Asia over 2.3 billion people and will contribute maximum to the earth’s population increase. USA, Indonesia, Brazil and Mexico will continue to have large populations but will stabilize.

Europe and Americas will need more workforce (if they don’t push for automation).

Indian subcontinent and Africa will continue to be a huge source of immigrants. Climate change is going to affect the entire planet. Therefore, the only time for sustainable development is NOW! If not now, then never!
