NANDI

Whenever we go for darshan of Bholenath all our attention is on Shivling and after that our attention goes to temple artwork and later on other things. We all have seen Nandi in the temple and before reaching the Shivling we bow our heads before Nandi and bow down to him.

Nandi always remains in front of Shivling.

  • In the temple of Lord Shankarji, the statue of his ride Nandi is installed in front of him because Nandi, the vehicle of Shivaji, is considered a symbol of Purusharth i.e. hard work and dedication.
  • Shiva Lingam is the symbol of Paramatma (Almighty Supreme). Shiva's Nandi (the bull) is symbolic of the Jiva (individual soul).
  • The bull is a symbol of stability sitting on four legs, representing Satya (truth), Dharma (righteousness), Shanti (peace), Prema (love and devotion).
  • It is believed that just as Nandi is the vehicle of Lord Shiva, similarly our body is the vehicle of our soul. Soul is a part of God.
  • Just as Nandi's vision is towards Lord Shankar, similarly our vision should also be towards God. That is, every human being should keep an eye on his faults and at the same time always keep good feelings towards others in his mind.

Lord Shankar's ride Nandi also indicates that when the attention of the body is towards the Lord, then only one can be completely pure in character, conduct and behavior, that is, one should always test one's mental qualities. should remain. It is necessary and like Lord Shiva, who is always auspicious and welfare, should keep in mind the interest, charity and welfare of others as well as the defects of behavior and speech. Keeping all these things in mind, Nandi always sits facing Bholenath.
