On this day people worship and pay respect to their Guru.
Overview/History

Indian people hold great respect for their Gurus. The word itself holds immense importance and stature. A Guru in India is a worshipped individual whose knowledge and wisdom have enlighten us in the journey of life. The festival is celebrated by both Hindus and Buddhists. The significance of this day is that the Guru holds the most essential position in one's life and to give him respect and honor people celebrate Guru Purnima.

It is celebrated on the full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashadh (June to August) in reference to the Hindu calendar. This day is celebrated by the Buddhists in the honor of Lord Buddha who presented his first preaching on this very day at Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh. The Hindus also celebrate this day in memory of the great sage Vyasa who is thought as the original guru of Hindu religion.

  Guru Purnima is celebrated by conducting diverse programs and special cultural performances by various organizations and Samarohas. As part of the celebration, devotees present gifts in form of sweets and flowers to their spiritual gurus. It's an ideal time to commence spiritual lessons from a guru. Farmers give great significance to this day because it is believe that the advent of much-needed rains will shower upon their crops and plantations.
  
  
  A 'Puja' is kept by all spiritual aspirants of Vyasa in honor of his divine personage. By tradition, from this day the spiritual seekers begin to strengthen their spiritual 'sadhana'. The period of 'Chaturmas' i.e. "four months" starts from this day. Long-ago, wandering spiritual gurus and their followers settled down at one place and studied on the Brahma Sutras composed by Vyasa and used to engage themselves in Vedantic debates.

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being..

She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?'

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze..

'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked.

She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...'

'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.

We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experience with me..

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.'

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, ' We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!

There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.

Anybody! Can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets..'

She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose'

She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those months ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

Travel the path of Success by your A.C.T.I.O.N !

Without question almost every home business owner has
struggled with time management. Working from home has many perks, but along with the perks come distractions.

Those distractions if left unchecked can destroy your
business. So, how do you find a balance between home life and
home business life?

In its simplest form, the answer can be boiled down to how you
manage your time.

Realistically, it’s about doing the right things when the right
things need doing.

Read that last sentence over again and really let it sink in.

Do the right things when the right things need doing.

That leads us to the next obvious question. How am I going to
know what the right thing to do is and when to do it?

The key to that answer can be found in the word ACTION.

A-AWARENESS

You have to be consciously aware of what needs to be done. Take the time to put a plan together for your business. A well
prepared plan gives you the ability to see if you are on track or
not. Not too many people would leave on a cross country road trip without a map and a destination in mind. Along with that, most people would have ideas on where they might stop along the way, and a holiday budget. Why would you run your business with no map, destination, ideas or a budget? Think about what your business will need, where you want your business to go, and what you need to do. Be AWARE of what needs doing.

C-COMMITMENT

Be committed to your business. Once again, the road trip holiday can provide us with some ideas. If you left on a road trip holiday with no plan, and weren’t committed to getting to a destination, would any of your friends be surprised if you didn’t successfully complete the trip? Of course not. Without a commitment to your business, you will fail. Make a COMMITMENT and see your plan through to completion.

T-TENACITY

Have tenacity to persist and see it through. Back to the road trip. If you get a flat tire, do you give up and go home? Not likely, you fix it and continue on. Don’t allow little things to stop you from the big things you have planned for your business. Focus on your goals and plans and be persistent. Have TENACITY and don’t give up.

I-INGENUITY

Use ingenuity to find the workable way. When an obstacle appears, pull out your road map (or plan), take a look at it and see if there are other routes available that will keep you on track to your destination. Seek advice from the locals (or other people in home businesses similar to yours). Your ability to use INGENUITY will directly affect your business’ success.

O-OBJECTIVITY

Use objectivity for an undistorted perspective. Take a break, a
breather, step back, clear your head every now and again to maintain your objectiveness in making decisions for your business. Take a moment to survey the lay of the land on your road trip, it will make travel much easier. OBJECTIVITY gives you the ability to see things in your business clearly.

N-NAVIGATE

Navigate a manageable pathway. If the vehicle you’re taking on a road trip has marginal brakes, don’t plan a route that takes you through the highest mountains!! Know what your limits are and what you can do. Navigating a manageable pathway to your destination betters your chances for business success!

Destination Success? Try the Road Less Travelled

Ever thought about where you're going? Is your destination success? This article combines a classic motivational poem with the priceless advice of best-selling author Jim Collins. In his book: "Good to Great", Collins convincingly examined what it was that turned good companies into greats. A basic tenet of his book was "first who ... then what". For these companies, one of the first steps in changing from good to great was to take a road less travelled.

When Collins and his team started their research project they expected to find that "the first step in taking a company from good to great would be to set a new direction, a new vision and strategy for the company, and then to get people committed and aligned behind the new direction." However, the leaders of these great companies chose a different path.

What did Collins' successful business leaders do differently? Collins' favorite analogy was that of driving a business like a bus, but one without a particular destination on display. Instead, we imagine the bus with a sign saying simply - "Destination: Success". On this bus, the driver hasn't decided on a destination then recruited the crew.

On Collins' bus, the first decision is who, not where. "... first get the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right people in the right seats, then figure where to drive the bus." Once on the bus, the right people together would work out how to "take it someplace great."

The power of taking a road less travelled is captured in a famous poem by Robert Frost: The Road Not Taken. Although it’s possible to interpret the poem in different ways, the most popular interpretation is that it encourages non-conformity.

It epitomizes the value of setting off in new directions, taking a direction that others may not have journeyed. Choosing a different path. Maybe destination success!
