This image of a pair of interacting galaxies called Arp 273 was released to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The distorted shape of the larger of the two galaxies shows signs of tidal interactions with the smaller of the two. It is thought that the smaller galaxy has actually passed through the larger one.

These kinds of Cosmic wonders is what makes me look up the night ske in awe :))
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful example: search for "M51" or "Whirlpool Galaxy" in Google images. My goal is to take a photo of M51 and its interacting companion through my telescope...I am getting there...only a matter of months now :)
Forgot to add: it does looks like the universe is offering us a "Rose" :)
