MIDWEEK INSPIRATION

WEEKEND WISDOM

4 TIPS FROM BRIAN TRACY    on

LIVING  A  SUCCESSFUL  LIFE

1. Focus on what is useful.

"Whatever you dwell on in the conscious grows in your experience."

"The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not
things we fear."

This is very important and something I think some people don't grasp the full
extent of. I certainly didn't before. When your focus is split, when you fill
your
mind with just the "normal amount" of negativity or dwell on for
example mistakes you are using up valuable time, energy and available focus
to pull yourself backwards and to make mountains out of molehills.

Problems seem to become bigger in your mind than they actually are when
you dwell on them. But so does, for example, opportunities and gratitude.
Your surrounding reality is huge. And the room for interpretations of that
reality is wide. What you focus is what you will see in your reality
(opportunities vs. more reasons why things suck). What you dwell on
becomes bigger and bigger in your mind. And what you think about is what
you will act upon.

That's basically why it's absolutely crucial to keep your focus and your thoughts in right place and on the positive and useful things in your life as consistently as you can. If you focus on the negative and irrelevant stuff it is quite likely that you never get all those most important things done.

2. Ask yourself helpful questions.

"After every difficulty, ask yourself two questions: "What did I do right?" and
"What would I do differently?"

The questions you ask yourself in life determine much of your outlook and
success. If you ask disempowering questions like "what sucks about this?" in any situation then you are creating a lot of unhappiness and victim thinking.

If you on the other hand keep it on a useful and empowering level with questions like the ones from Tracy then your chances of succeeding goes up.

3. Focus on the activities that brings you results.

"Most people engage in activities that are tension-relieving rather than
goal-achieving."

This is very true. Many love to just take it easy or relieve tension - and create
more of it - by procrastinating and complaining instead of doing. It seems easier on the surface but in the long haul it tends to cause you more pain.

Of course, you must take time to relax too. But find a good and helpful balance for the two aspects of life and the best ways and most positive ways to relieve tension.
Three suggestions could be regular exercise, meditation in some form or just
watching a good movie.

4. Make a decision. Any decision. Just do something.

"Decisiveness is a characteristic of high-performing men and women. Almost
any decision is better than no decision at all."

I write about this quite a lot in the Positivity Newsletter. That's because it's one of the most fundamental things that hold people back. Sitting on your hands and hoping that someone else will do something for you usually results in a lot of waiting.

Just make a decision. Do something. Take a first step. The sky will most likely not fall if you fail. You will just feel bad for a short while and learn a few things by asking the questions in the previous tip.

Then you make a new decision based on what you learned and take action again.

Lal Bahadur Shastri

A PM who paid when sons used official car

At a time when Indian politicians make news for corruption and misuse of power comes a book on Lal Bahadur Shastri, the country's second prime minister who was so upright that he deposited money in government coffers because his sons had used his official car.

The incident has been captured in the book 'Lal Bahadur Shastri: Past Forward' (Konark) by his son Sunil Shastri, a Congress politician and a former minister  in Uttar Pradesh.

Sunil Shastri says he used to imagine having a big luxury car commensurate with the status of his 'babuji'(father) and Lal Bahadur Shastri did get a Chevrolet Impala for official use.

'One day I told babuji's personal secretary to ask the driver to bring the Chevrolet to the residence. We asked the driver for the keys and went for a drive,' he says in the book.

Lal Bahadur Shastri later confronted the driver, saying, 'Do you keep a logbook with you?' 'When he nodded, babuji asked him to note the distance the car had run the previous day. When the driver said 14 km, he advised him to note it 'for
private use' and then asked amma to give his personal secretary the amount applicable to be deposited in the government account.'

Lal Bahadur Shastri ruled from June 1964 to January 1966, dying in Tashkent where he had gone to sign a treaty with Pakistan after the 1965 war.

The book is replete with instances of how the late Shastri lived - and the values he embraced and preached.

The son recalls how Lal Bahadur Shastri had shed tears upon meeting an Indian soldier badly wounded in the 1965 war with Pakistan.

'I don't have tears in my eyes because my death is near ... but despite being a major I am not able to stand up and salute my prime minister,' the younger Shastri quotes the soldier, who was on a hospital bed, as saying.

And then it was the prime minister who could not control his own emotions. That was the only time he saw his father cry, says his son.

There are many interesting anecdotes on Shastri in the book.

* Lal Bahadur Shastri was told by his mother of his marriage in May 1928 only after he reached Varanasi. 'He was surprised and told his mother that she should have at least asked him once before finalising it. Anyhow since his mother had decided, he said he would abide by her wishes.'

* When Lal Bahadur Shastri's wife decided to learn Hindi, she paid the tuition fees by dispensing with the domestic maid and doing the household chores herself.

* Lal Bahadur Shastri often handed over to his wife his khadi kurtas when they became unusable and asked her to make handkerchiefs out of them. 'He lived on the simple philosophy of 'waste not, want not'.'

* In true Gandhian style, Lal Bahadur Shastri travelled like a commoner in trains even when he was railway minister. 'He lived according to his principles.'

* During the independence struggle, Lal Bahadur Shastri protested when his wife smuggled two mangoes to him when he was in the Faizabad prison. He was angry because it was illegal for prisoners to have anything other than jail food.

* Despite his preoccupations as prime minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri was a family man who devoted time to his mother and others when he returned home. It helped him get over the day's fatigue and worries.

MIDWEEK INSPIRATION

Here's a question you may want to ask yourself regularly:
What am I doing with my 24 hours?

In other words, every day, what do you have to show for burning
through another 24 hours of your life?
If the answer is, 'next to nothing', or 'not nearly as much as I
would like', then I'm happy to tell you that you can change that
right now, and in a moment, in this email, I'm going to give you a
simple system for doing it.
If you're ready to put more life and more action into your day,
then get a pen and paper and write down this simple system.
It consists of 3 basic steps. Here they are:
1. Write down all the tasks you want to get done today
2. Assign a specific block of time for completing each task
   (like 30 minutes)
3. Select a task, start a timer, and focus on nothing else until
   that task is complete!
That's all there is to it.
Simple, yes! Incredibly effective, YES!
By itself, this system can put your productivity into high-gear -
IF you use it.

RIGHT PERSON FOR THE RIGHT JOB!!!

Does your Company have a problem in recruiting the right person for the right chair?

If yes, try this simple experiment.

Put around 100 bricks in some particular order in a closed room with an open window.

Then send 2-3 candidates into the room and close it from outside.

Leave them alone and come back after 6 hours, and then analyze the situation

If they are counting and recounting the number of bricks
PUT THEM IN THE ACCOUNTS DEPT.

If they have messed up the whole place with the bricks
 PUT THEM IN ENGINEERING.

If they are arranging the bricks in some other order

 PUT THEM IN PLANNING.

If they are throwing the bricks at each other

PUT THEM IN OPERATIONS.

If they are sleeping

 PUT THEM IN SECURITY.

If they have broken the bricks into pieces

PUT THEM IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.

If they are sitting idle

PUT THEM IN HUMAN RESOURCE DEPT.

If they have thrown the bricks out of the window
PUT THEM IN THE MATERIALS DEPT.

If they have already left for the day

PUT THEM IN MARKETING.

AND last but not least....

If they are talking to each other and not a brick has moved

-PUT THEM IN TOP MANAGEMENT

Woman 2: Do you think so? I wasn't sure when she gave me the mirror. I
Mean, you don't think it's too fluffy looking?

Woman 1: No, it's perfect. I'd love to get my hair cut like that, but I think my face is too wide. I'm pretty much stuck with this stuff I think.

Woman 2: Are you serious? I think your face is adorable. And you could easily get one of those layer cuts - that would look so cute I think. I was actually going to do that except that I was afraid it would accent my long neck.

Woman 1: Oh - that's funny! I would love to have your neck! Anything to
Take attention away from these football player shoulders of mine.

Woman 2: Are you kidding? I know girls that would love to have your shoulders. Everything drapes so well on you. I mean, look at my arms, see how short they are? If I had your shoulders I could get clothes to fit me so much easier.

Lessons from Ramayana

Valmiki had the courage to explain Ramayan through lot of miseries.

These are some examples from Ramayan.

- If Dasaratha would wait for 2 days instead of granting the two boons to kaikayie in the war field. Kaikeyi was intelligent to say that I wont ask the boon now in this war field I will ask when it is time to ask.

- If Rama would have waited for 2 days instead of taking the request immeditely from kaikeyi to go to forest. In two days of time Bharatha would have returned and things would have been sorted out,

- If Laxman would have not cut the nose of surpanaka instead explain to her that he has a wife waiting in ayodhya.

- If sita would have waited for some more minutes for her RAM to arrive before crossing the line. Ram would have arrived. Sita was deceived emotionally by the words of the rishi (Ravana)

Ramayana would have not born.

Valmiki beautifully explaines here, "If we are not alligned with the laws of LIFE, We are sure to suffer from miseries."

Dont be a consequence receiver, be a choise maker.

Dont make any decisions when you are emotional. Wait for some time. Let the emotions settle down. Emotions will settle down. When we are emotional there is no intelligence. When we are peaceful within us. Intelligence comes up and we make clear decisions.
Inspite of all the above miseries in Ramayan there was one person who said "All the miseries to my LORD Ram has to happen because you and me has to meet up. My bhakthi towards you has got me you here". Said the none other than the Monkey GOD Hanuman.

When we are emotional stand for few seconds as Swami Vivekananda stands with hands folded up. You will see the Swami Vivekananda in you.
