SELF MOTIVATION
Forty Seventh shloka of the Second chapter of The Bhagvad Gita
is the most popular and unquestionably the most quoted one and tragically the most misunderstood also.
Karmanyeva adhikarste ma phaleshu kadachan,
Makarmaphala heturbhuh martesangostavakarmani
Krishna says thy right is to work only but never with its fruits; let not the fruits of action be thy motive; nor let thy attachment be to inaction. Sceptics allege ‘complacent and less ambitious Indians’ believing in ‘whatever is destined will be’ so why to make effort?
When Krishna is telling them to leave the rewards, they get disheartened and label The Bhagvad Gita as non-practical. On the contrary, The Bhagvad Gita is not non-practical and Lord Krishna is not indicating us to leave the rewards of accomplished work, The Bhagvad Gita is not wrong , our understanding is wrong.
The Bhagavad Gita is only telling us that ‘you do your work with full concentration, effort and energy, but do not think about results while on work because that takes away your concentration from the task, results will automatically trickle after efforts. That is very much practical advice.
A meritorious student attempting his question paper does not bother about result in the examination hall, neither he is worried about competitors, his full concentration is on the answers and this effort is followed by results. This “Examination Hall Formula, if is followed religiously at work, results would astonish all! The process of motivation according to ‘The Bhagavad Gita Gospel’ is the clarion call to a man to stay ‘Self Motivated’.
