Did Brahma create the universe?
Creation of universe symbolizes creation of a new life.
While Brahma is the third manifestation of Brahman, Indra the god of daydreaming and Shakti, the God / the God / goddess of illusion are not good for creation of a new thought. This makes Brahma the first manifestation of Brahman to create a new thought.
Brahma symbolizes manual component of Atman, which is the power supply of a thought. This force is small in magnitude, short in duration and delinks all thoughts of our life. It is ideally suited for understanding the thinking mechanism of the conscious mind, called Brahman.
However, Brahma creates too many options, making the thoughts demonic.
Vishnu symbolizes semi-automatic Atman, which is the default Atman. The manual component of this is same as Brahma with upper and lower limits, which prevent Brahma from becoming demonic.
This is symbolized by Brahma originating from the navel of Vishnu.
It must be realized that the resting state of Brahman and Vishnu are also known as Narayana, who is the same as Brahma.
Agni too symbolizes the same force.
Lakshmi too symbolizes the same force.
Brahma can be the same as Brahman, except for the fact that he is manual and Brahman is automatic.
Brihaspati too is the same as Brahma, though he is as extensive as Brahman.
It is for this reason that our knowledge of Hinduism should be based on Brahma Jnana or knowledge of Brahman based on properties of Atman of Brahman.
