Albert Einstein died on April 18, 1955, shortly after a blood vessel near his heart burst. Despite being offered surgery, Einstein refused, stating that he wanted to die on his own terms and that it was tasteless to prolong life artificially. This decision was a reflection of his belief in nonviolence and his firm values. In 1948, he had been diagnosed with an abdominal aortic aneurysm, a potentially life-threatening condition, but he still chose not to undergo surgery. His doctors respected his decision, and he died at the age of 76. Source: "Einstein's Aneurysm and Refusal of Surgery." Neurosurgery. April 2016.
