The Universe gives us shows of extraordinary beauty and incredible perfection, which amaze even "experts". This is the case of this fantastic island of stars: the Hoag Object, whose formation processes remain a mystery in many respects. The galaxy is made up of a near-perfect ring of hot blue stars arranged around a yellowish core, and extends over 100,000 light-years across. The blue ring is dominated by the presence of groups of young massive stars, in stark contrast to the yellowish core composed of older stars. The Hoag Object is located 600 million light-years away from us, in the constellation of the Serpent.
The right side of the shot reveals many more background galaxies, lost in a dark immensity.
