Use this simple productivity method.
The pomodoro technique:
- Pick a task
This crucial step is often overlooked.
If you don't pick a task, you'll:
- Check your emails
- Hop between different tasks
- Put off the one with the most resistance
Start with 1 task to get focused and build momentum.
2. Start the timer
Set the timer for 25 minutes.
This is the optimal time to stay 100% focused.
- Start your timer
- Work on your 1 task
- Don't stop until the timer goes off
When you're done, take a quick break.
3. Short break
Take a quick 5 minutes break.
Avoid energy draining or attention stealing tasks like:
- Scrolling Instagram
- Intense exercise
- Heavy eating
Instead take a restorative break, like drinking water, getting some sun, or eating a small snack.
4. Do another one
Set another timer.
Do the exact same thing as before.
- 1 task
- 25 mins 100% focus
- 5 mins restorative break
Keep doing this until you reach 4 consecutive pomodoros.
5. Rinse and repeat
After 4 consecutive pomodoros, give yourself a longer break.
Make this one last 30 minutes.
Take a break that revitalization your energy.
When you're well rested, repeat.
To summarise the 5 steps:
- Pick a task
- Short timer
- Short break
- Do another one
- Rinse and repeat
