LIVE IN NATURAL WAY

Prince Shrona of Magadha kingdom was very defiant.

He felt pleasure in insulting others.

He did not even care about age while insulting others. When his parents became very upset with his actions, they invited Lord Buddha to their palace.

When Buddha came to the palace, he heard everything about the prince. He asked the king to bring the prince to the sermon.

Shrona came with his father and at the end of the discourse he fell at the feet of the Buddha. Influenced by the words of Buddha, he became initiated into Buddhism.

His life changed completely. After some time, he gave up food and water to repent. When Lord Buddha came to know about his harsh vow, he came to see him.

He affectionately placed his hand on his forehead and said, “Shron, your health is deteriorating due to the sacrifice of food and water.

You are knowledgeable about music, so answer one of my questions related to it, does a sound wave emerge when the strings of the Veena are loosened? Shron replied, “No Lord.

Buddha again asked, “Then the strings would have to be tightened a lot? Shrona said, “No, if you tighten it too much the strings may break.”

Then Tathagat said, “To make melodious music from Veena, its strings should neither be kept too loose nor too tight.

Similarly, our life is also like a veena, to play it well, complete sacrifice of all things is not appropriate.

Shrona freed himself from his harsh vow and started living a simple life.

This story emphasizes on living life in a natural way, which includes the message of fulfillment of proper needs and control over excess desires.

If life is based on need, fulfillment and restraint, If operated from, it provides ultimate peace.
