GEOGRAPHY FACTS

  1. The true size of Greenland
    1. Many people believe that Greenland is the largest country in the world in terms of land area. In reality, while it is quite large, it is not larger than countries like Russia or Canada. This misconception arises from the distortion of map projections, particularly the Mercator projection.
  2. Mount Everest is the Tallest Mountain
    1. While Mount Everest is the highest point above sea level, if we measure from the base to the summit, Mauna Kea in Hawaii is the tallest mountain. Most of Mauna Kea is submerged underwater, but its summit rises higher than that of Everest when measured from its base on the ocean floor.
  3. Always dark in Antarctica
    1. Antarctica does experience extreme darkness during its winter months, but during the summer, it has 24-hour daylight in some regions. It's not in perpetual darkness as some might believe. The same is true for the far north regions of the world.
