According to Indian Philosophy, There are 5 elements which are vital for human body. Which are Air, Water, Earth, Fire and Akasha(space).
- Air provides us necessary oxygen to sustain our living.
- Water provides us necessary oxygen and energy that sustains our living.
- Fire provides us necessary heat to sustain our living.
- Akasha(space) elements has cosmic effects on human body as well.
- Earth provides requires resources, that are essential for human body.

Panchmukhi Hanuman is a metaphoric representation, for these five vital elements for human body.
Each face has its own meaning, and represents an element of nature such as:
- Varaha, a Vishnu avatar who saved earth from demon Hirnayaksh; Thus he represents element of Earth.
- Hanuman, is also called as Vayuputra or Pavanputra; thus he represents element of Air.
- Narasimha, is half human and half lion avtar of Vishnu who is as fierce as fire; He thus represents element of Fire.
- Garuda, is an eagle and Vishnu vehicle, who is mostly in sky; it thus represents element of sky(Akasha).
- Hayagriva was a demon, who stole vedas from Brahma and Vishnu thus took matsya avatar to revive vedas from him, he looks like sea horse and lived in ocean; He thus represents element of Water.
All these five faces situated over a human body represents that these elements are vital for sustaining life of a human being.
