BLESSINGS ..2

There was a renowned saint who visited a village with his disciple.

The villagers were wonderful people who cared for one another and for him. They treated him very well during his stay in the village.

When he was leaving the village, they asked for his blessings.

He said "May all of you be uprooted from this village," and left.

In the next village that he visited, the people were selfish and
mean. They did not care much for him and were often quarrelling with one another. When he was leaving this village, the villagers again asked for his blessings.

He said "May you all be content to stay in your village," and left.

The disciple was perplexed.

He asked the saint why he wanted the people in the first village to be uprooted when they were good natured and had served him well, while he wished well for the people in the second village.

The saint explained the he wanted the people in the first village to go out into the world and spread goodness and grow in the process while he wanted the people in the second village to contain their bad qualities within their village.
