KEPLER'S 3rd LAW

We all know that the Earth takes about 365 days to complete an orbit around the Sun, this is our period of revolution.

Kepler's third law* tells us that the square of the period of revolution of a planet around the Sun is proportional to the cube of its average distance from the Sun. In simple terms, planets closer to the Sun have shorter periods of revolution than the outer planets. Thus, the distant Neptune takes 165 years to complete an orbit while the small Mercury only 88 days.

* the squares of the orbital periods of the planets are directly proportional to the cubes of the semi-major axes of their orbits. Kepler's Third Law implies that the period for a planet to orbit the Sun increases rapidly with the radius of its orbit.KEPLER'S
