LESSON FROM MAHABHARATHAM - 1

After days of training by Drona, Kauravas and Pandavas had learned various fighting skills. They were each skilled in one or many forms of weaponry. Drona was impressed with all his students but he was amazed by the dedication and skills of Arjun.

However, Drona’s attachment to his son Ashwatthama was different. At times he would try to teach Ashwatthama separately. He wanted to give the best lessons to his son. Arjun came to know about that and would make sure he didn’t miss any.

When Drona would send the students away for bringing water from the river, Ashwatthama would stay back at the ashram. He would take separate lessons from Drona. Arjun did not want to skip the opportunity and hence he started using varunastra to fill water in his pots. That way he saved time and ran back to join Drona and Ashwatthama. Drona realised that Arjun was adamant on learning everything. He was fascinated by his determination and will power. So he gave the secret knowledge of divine weapons to Arjun along with Ashwatthama.

One day when Arjun was eating his food at night, the wind started blowing. The lamp went off because of the wind and hence it went dark. Arjun kept eating his food subconsciously and then he realised something. How did his hand found way to put food in his mouth? He asked himself, “ If I can eat in dark, then why can’t I fight in dark?”

From that night onwards Arjun started practising archery even at night. He gained control over his sleep. He gained control over his mind. He became an archer without a weakness.

Drona gave Arjun many lessons but the most important lesson to Arjun was given by Arjun himself. And the lesson was : When you truly decide to do something then nothing can stop you from attaining it.

Arjun didn’t stop at his teacher’s bias towards his kid. He did not get stopped by the cover of darkness over his eyes. He did not stop at anything. That’s why he became the hero of the epic Mahabharata.
