Our Galaxy a member of a group of Galaxy

Our Galaxy, the Milky Way, is part of a supercluster of galaxies called Laniakea, which in Hawaiian means "immeasurable heaven".

Do you know how many galaxies? A whopping 100,000! They are all grouped together and are moving away from each other because of the expansion of the universe. In the image of Laniakea, the galaxies appear as white dots while the thin yellow lines represent their path in space. The red dot indicates the position of the Milky Way.

An image that makes us reflect on our place in the Universe.
