NEAREST BLACKHOLE

The nearest known black hole to Earth

is located in the system V616 Monocerotis, often referred to as V616 Mon or simply as "V616 Mon." The black hole in this system is also known as A0620-00. It is situated in the constellation Monoceros and is estimated to be about 3,000 light-years away from Earth.

V616 Mon is a binary system consisting of a black hole and a companion star. The black hole in this system has a mass about 6 to 12 times that of the Sun. The discovery of this black hole was a significant milestone in the study of black holes, and it has been the subject of scientific investigation to better understand the properties and behavior of black holes in our cosmic neighborhood.

It's important to note that the study of black holes is a dynamic field, and new discoveries can occur. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, V616 Mon is considered one of the nearest known black holes, but there may have been additional findings or research since then.
