NGC 7331 & STEPHAN'S QUINTET

Distance from Earth: 39,790,000 light-years.

NGC 7331 (on the right) is a spiral galaxy visible in the constellation of Pegasus. Its arms, visible with large instruments, are faint and open towards the south. Its structure and size are similar to those of the Milky Way.

The Stephan's Quintet (bottom left) is a visual group of five galaxies, also in the direction of the constellation of Pegasus. It was the first group of galaxies to be discovered: it was discovered by the French astronomer Édouard Stephan in 1877 at the Marseille Observatory and is the most studied of all compact galaxy groups.
