SUDARSHAN CHAKRA

Chakra-dhyana murti.

Here MahaVishnu is worshipping Shiva, who later presents him with the Sudarshan chakra.

Inside carving in one of the devakulikas at Airavateshwara Temple in Kanchipuram, early 8th Century CE, built by the Pallava King Narasimha Varma-ll, popularly known as Rajasimha.

According to the Linga Purana, Lord Shiva gave Sudarshan chakra to Sri Vishnu to fight the asuras .

According to the story (as given in the Amar Chitra Katha)- The devas had been defeated by the armies of asuras, who had the power to heal their battle wounds, and so Vishnu decided to face the asuras himself. He fought against the countless asuras for an eternity, but then realised His efforts were futile. So He visited mount Kailasha, for Shiva’s help. But Shiva was deep in meditation, and Vishnu knew disturbing Shiva during his tapasya would result in chaos. So He decided to wake Him up through devotional means. Vishnu collected thousand lotuses as an offering to the God of destruction, but Shiva removed one, and when Vishnu found that he had offered only 999 lotuses, he offered his own eye instead. Shiva pleased with the devotion, gave darshan, and Vishnu received the Sudarshan chakra from Him.

This is also referenced in Harivamsha Parva of Mahabharata in 3.84 where Kailasha is described:

यत्र लेभे हरिश्चक्रमुपास्य बहुभिर्दिनैः ।

पुष्करैः शतपत्रैश्च नेत्रेण च जगत्पतिम् ॥ 3.84.11

That place where (Kailash) Hari obtained the Sudarshan Chakra by worshiping for many years the Jagatpati (Shiva), by lotus flowers and by his eye.
