RECENT DISCOVERY ON SPERM

The fastest sperm is not necessarily the one that fertilizes the egg. The egg has selective receptors and allows entry to the most suitable sperm, not the one that arrives first.

A study conducted by researchers from Stockholm University in Sweden and the University of Manchester Trust Foundation in the United Kingdom, published in the scientific journal The Royal Society, disproves the theory that the fastest sperm can fertilize an egg.

The one that accomplishes the feat is not necessarily the first to reach the egg, but rather the one selected by the female reproductive cell through chemotaxis.
