TAMIL - THE OLDEST LANGUAGE

 

For the longest time it was believed that Sanskrit was the oldest language. But recent archaeological discoveries has shown that the oldest language in the world is Tamil, which is about 5000 years old.

Unlike Sanskrit which fell out of common usage around 600 BC Tamil is still used by around 78 million people in Tamil Nadu the state of India, Sri Lanka and Singapore. Part of the Dravidian family, which comprises of some native southern and eastern Indian languages. Sanskrit is now a liturgical language - the holy languages found in the scriptures of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

Another ancient language which cannot be left out is Egyptian. the Egyptian civilization was one of the oldest and the most powerful in the world. It boasts of many discoveries that has baffled the world. The ancient Egyptian language was not been understood for thousands of years. That was until the discovery of Rosetta stone by the French under Napoleon.
