GAGANYAAN MISSION

Gaganyaan is India's first human spaceflight mission. It is a crewed orbital spacecraft intended to be the formative spacecraft of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme. The spacecraft is being designed to carry three people, and a planned upgraded version will be equipped with rendezvous and docking capabilities.

The Gaganyaan mission is divided into three phases:

• Phase 1: This phase will involve the development and testing of the Gaganyaan Orbital Module (GSOM), which will be the crew capsule. The GSOM will be launched into low Earth orbit (LEO) by the GSLV Mark III launch vehicle.
• Phase 2: This phase will involve the development and testing of the Gaganyaan Crew Escape System (GCES), which will be used to safely evacuate the crew in the event of an emergency.
• Phase 3: This phase will involve the launch of the first crewed Gaganyaan mission, which will carry three Indian astronauts into LEO for a stay of up to seven days.

The Gaganyaan mission is scheduled to be launched in 2024. The first crewed mission will be followed by several more crewed missions, and the ultimate goal is to establish a permanent human presence in space.
