TOWERING PILLARS OF EAGLE NEBULA

The towering pillars are about five light-years tall and are made of cold hydrogen gas laced with dust. Stars are being born deep inside the pillars, and streams of gas bleed off as the intense radiation heats and evaporate the gas into space. The pillars are part of a small region of the Eagle Nebula, a vast star-forming region 6,500 light-years from Earth.
